Unable to install 2 latest TT patches
Hi,
So far I have been unable to install the 2 latest patches (079 and 080). Here is a copy of the "install" text file containing the exact description of the error: *** Installation Started 07/15/2002 23:18 *** Title: TheaterTek DVD Installation Source: C:\Program Files\TheaterTek\Patch_079.exe | 05-20-2002 | 23:22:10 | 1234249 The file C:\Program Files\TheaterTek\TheaterTek DVD.exe could not be opened. *** Installation Started 07/15/2002 23:19 *** Title: TheaterTek DVD Installation Source: C:\Program Files\TheaterTek\Patch_080.exe | 06-14-2002 | 00:57:14 | 1234401 The file C:\Program Files\TheaterTek\TheaterTek DVD.exe could not be opened. I can't see why the "TheaterTek DVD.exe" cannot be opened. Am I supposed to rename it? Should I simply leave all the TT-related files in one folder, or on the contrary, remove some of the old ones? Thank you for any assistance you can provide, since I am stuck with ver. 1.2.0.76, which, by the way, has been doing the job very well since I installed it. I couldn't live without it now. I am running the program on a Pentium 4, 2 GHz, 512 MB, Windows XP machine. The graphics card is unfortunately an Nvidia Geforce 3 Ti 200, so I have some problems with the gamma. This should change with my next PC which will be a dedicated HTPC (but messages in the forums have been a little bit discouraging lately regarding the ATI drivers, WinXP and HW acceleration, so I continue trying to be patient...). Thank you for helping me sorting this out, and thank you for a great product. Picture and sound quality, and features vs. ease of use are top notch. If I were able to take screen captures, it would be easy to PROVE (if ever there was a doubt) that the picture quality is superior to e.g. PowerDVD XP... Best regards, Henrik Dam

Henrik, when you look at C:\Program Files\TheaterTek\ what is the name of the executable file there? The patch needs to find this file in that location or the update will be terminated. I seem to remember an early bug with certains versions of Windows that caused the executable to be renamed. I believe if you have this problem, you can just rename the executable to "TheaterTekDVD.exe" and then the patch will install just fine. If worse comes to worse, you can always uninstall TheaterTek, then reinstall your original from the CD, and then run just the latest patch, without having to install the interim patches.

Thank you Bob.
I'll check your renaming suggestion tonight and see what happens. If it doesn't work, I'll go for the uninstall-reinstall-patch procedure. Best regards, Henrik

Henrik,
The patch should work for pretty much all previous versions. Just point it to the directory where TheaterTek is installed. If you still have trouble, send me an email. Andrew |

File permissions
You might also check the file properties (right click, Properties) and make sure the permissions on the file didn't get set to something weird. For example read only bit is set, or your userid has read only. I don't have XP yet, but I assume it is similar to 2000 where all kinds of weird permission settings are possible.

OK. Thanks for your replies.
I had renamed my previous TheaterTek exe file as "TheaterTek DVD 1.2.0.76", which probably explains why the pathes didn't work. Now I have just renamed my exe file to TheaterTek DVD and run the patch 080. Worked fine except that now, when I doubleclick on the TheaterTek DVD icon, the small "TheaterTek DVD copyright 2001" window opens for about 2 s and nothing else happens ![]() I'll try going through the help files and see what I can find. Then I'll try the "uninstall, reinstall, run latest patch" suggestion provided by Bob Sorel. I'll definitely keep you informed of the progress. Thanks again and best regards,

I got it working at last!
The uninstall-reinstall-repatch procedure did it for me. I had backed up the video settings and data files and, after the reinstall, I simply copied them back in the TT directory. I was afraid that I might have to re-register but it wasn't the case. The "about" menu now correctly states that I am running ver. 1.2.0.80 and, well, the image quality is as fine as it was before... Thanks to everyone that cared to provide some much needed support. Cheers,

Great, Henrik, I'm glad you got everything back up and running. It's good that you saved your settings and data files, as that will save you some work now. Nice job!
